Website and Database Administrator (Application Developer)

The City of Topeka’s Information Technology department is seeking a skilled Website and Database Administrator (Application Developer) to lead efforts in developing, maintaining and modernizing the City’s web presence and data platforms. This is a fast-paced, high-impact role that is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex and/or technical problems, collaborating with all departments, and utilizing their technical expertise to improve the way the City serves the needs of its citizens.

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, maintain, and enhance the City’s public website, sub-sites, intranet, and web applications.
  • Partner with department subject matter experts (SMEs) to support and improve website content.
  • Develop and maintain web documents, templates, graphics, navigation tools, and online forms.
  • Maintain and support SQL Server and cloud-based databases.

Minimum Qualifications:

One of the following is required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Digital Media, Interaction Design, or a related field and demonstrated professional experience with database and web-based systems
  • Associate’s degree in a related field plus two years of SQL Server database administration experience and two years of web design and deployment experience
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus four years of SQL Server database administration experience and four years of web design and deployment experience

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience with Power BI, SSRS, SAP Crystal Reports, Tableau, Dash, Cognos, or similar reporting tools is required.
  • Microsoft SQL Server certification for RDBMS databases (e.g., MCSA, MCSE, DP-300) is preferred.
  • Experience in a government or public sector IT environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., CJIS, NIST, or other governmental security requirements) is preferred.

Annual Entry Salary: $65,781 - $78,937
