Neighborhood Planner / Planning Analyst - Planning & Development

The City of Topeka (population 128,000) is seeking qualified candidates for a well-rounded planner to join our team.

Topeka is the Capital of the State of Kansas rich with history, diverse neighborhoods, and economic momentum including a major public/private partnership for the revitalization of Topeka’s historic Downtown.

This is entry-level to advanced work, involving duties in the area of community planning. Works under general supervision with work reviewed for results achieved.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with community stakeholders to update and create neighborhood plans.
  • Present findings and proposals to neighborhood residents and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct field surveys and verify information.
  • Maintain and update information data bases.
  • Analyze and translate technical and demographic data.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has knowledge in community planning operating principles and practices.
  • Has knowledge in Geographic Information Services (GIS) mapping and software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to learn related software.

Minimum Qualifications:

All candidates must possess and maintain a valid KS driver’s license and City insurable driving record. Please review the Insurability Guidelines.

Planner I:

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture, public policy, or related area of study with one year of planning experience, or a master’s degree in urban planning with no planning experience.
  • Additional licenses or certifications may be required.

Planner II:

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, architecture, public policy, or related area of study with three years of planning experience, or a master’s degree in urban planning with two years of planning experience.

Planner I entry rate of pay: $23.71 - $24.81 per hour DOQ.

Planner II entry rate of pay: $29.18 - $30.54 per hour DOQ.
