Office Assistant II - Field Operations

The City of Topeka is seeking a dedicated administrative professional to serve as an Office Assistant to the Police Department’s Field Operations division. This position is responsible for providing structured administrative support to include the maintenance of records and files, answering phones, and composing letters and other correspondence.

What you'll do:

  • Compose, edit and distribute a variety of correspondence, forms and reports for the division.
  • Maintain databases for subpoenas and internal performance evaluations.
  • Distribute workflow for the division including distributing work schedules and unit assignments of personnel.
  • Answer questions and provide information to the public and other internal divisions.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively, confidently and professionally with a diverse audience.
  • Is highly organized with the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Is proficient in the use of standard office equipment and software, including the Microsoft Office Suite.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in data entry, computer databases and software, and operating standard office equipment.
  • Must meet qualifications to work as a police agency employee, including passing an extensive background check and polygraph.

Preferred

  • Possess and maintain a valid Kansas Class C driver’s license.

Entry Rate of Pay: $15.15 – 15.88 per hour, depending on qualifications
