This position is responsible for the maintenance of City-owned street lights, traffic signals and associated communications systems, which includes preventative, routine and emergency maintenance in all weather conditions. This position will also assist Signs and Marking personnel as needed and may assist in emergency snow removal operations.
What you’ll do:
- Repair, replace, adjust, and troubleshoot basic electrical systems.
- Respond to trouble calls during and after scheduled work shifts.
- Maintain City owned street lights
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license and must be insurable within the standards set by the City of Topeka's insurance carrier.
- Electronics Technician I – Graduation from an accredited vocational, military or two-year college with courses in electronics technology is preferred. IMSA Work Zone Traffic Control Safety Certification required within six (6) months or employment and IMSA Level I Traffic Signal Certification required within one-year of employment. Two (2) years of direct experience working on traffic signal systems is preferred.
- Electronics Technician II – IMSA Signal Inspector and Street Lighting certification must be obtained within one-year of employment. Graduation from an accredited vocational, military or two-year college with courses in electronics technology and IMSA Level III traffic Signal certification preferred. Must have five (5) years of direct experience working in traffic signal systems.
Entry rate of pay: $19.77 - $22.27 per hour, DOQ
