Senior Probation Officer

Location: Topeka, KS

The City of Topeka is seeking a dedicated professional to serve in its Probation Division as its Senior Probation Officer. This individual will supervise all activities within the division to include training and assessing the performance of direct reports, providing budgetary input and developing and implementing divisional policies, procedures, goals and objectives.

What you'll do:

  • Supervise Probationary staff with respect to performance and behavior.
  • Supervise individuals currently on probation to determine compliance with conditions of probation. Make referrals to social service agencies as needed.
  • Conduct pre-sentence investigations, which includes conducting drug and alcohol evaluations and preparing detailed reports.

The ideal candidate:

  • Has excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively, confidently and professionally with a diverse audience.
  • Is highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks and exercise sound judgement.
  • Is knowledgeable in areas of addictions, assessments, and investigative procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

  • An Associate's degree in social sciences, corrections, social work, or closely related field and five (5) years of corrections or probation experience OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social sciences, corrections, social work, or closely related field AND two (2) years of experience in corrections or probation.
  • One (1) year of experience supervising subordinates.
  • Addiction Counseling Licensure through the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board.

Preferred

  • Licenses and certifications from the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services (KDADS).

Annual entry salary: $63,865 - $76,638 DOQ
