HVAC Specialist

Department: Public Works/Facility Operations
Location: Topeka, KS

The City of Topeka is seeking a skilled HVAC professional to work as a lead technician in the facility operations division. This incumbent is responsible for planning, directing and performing a variety of work to ensure the adequate and efficient operation of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems city-wide.

What you'll do:

  • Perform maintenance, modifications and repairs to a variety of HVAC systems city-wide.
  • Administer HVAC service contracts and work performed by contractors.
  • Serve as a lead worker and technical expert on HVAC maintenance, including training others in routine HVAC preventative tasks and safe work practices
  • Maintain records, collect, compile and analyze data, and prepare reports as required.
  • Perform electrical and circuitry repairs as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited vocational school with specialized training in air conditioning or closely related field.
  • Must be a licensed refrigerant recovery system technician.
  • Must have a minimum of three years of experience in the care and maintenance of HVAC systems with experience in maintaining commercial / industrial electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Experience as a safety trainer / coordinator highly desired as well as experience as an inventory specialist.

Entry rate of pay: $19.21 - $21.99 per hour, depending on qualifications
