Building Inspector - Development Services Division

Department: Planning/Development Services
Location: Topeka, KS

The Building Inspector works to secure compliance with municipal ordinances and regulations governing the building code with emphases on the One & Two Family Dwelling Code.  New and difficult situations may be referred to a superior but the employee will usually work independently in the field after a short training period.  Work is performed under direct supervision.  This position is normally supervised by the Field Services Manager.  Position hours:  Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Minimum qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years of building construction experience or
  • 3 years of college work in architecture, engineering or construction science or
  • A combination of the above.
  • Must have a valid Kansas driver’s license and must have and maintain a City insurable driving record. 
  • Building Inspector I must obtain building inspector certification within 18 months of hire date.

$19.19 per hour.
